My story begins in 2003, when I left Africa for Europe. My journey to Europe began well; it was full of promise for a better life for my family and me. though nothing prepared me for the twists and turns that lay ahead. I trusted in God to lead me to a place of safety, joy and contentment, a place different from where I had been. I set my sights on Europe, but it didn’t take long for me to realize I was in an unfamiliar place, a strange country.

How did I get here? What was I fleeing from? What happened to me? How did I survive the turmoil and stress of starting life all over? What have I learned from my experience? This is the story I will share with you as you make your way through the highs and lows of life.

About The Book:

”Light Shining through Darkness” is the story of the journey of Jane van Zundert. The journey begins in 2003 when she left Africa for Europe, and continues to the present. This is a story of starting life all over in a new environment. The narrative presents the challenges and the obstacles faced by Jane in the years before and following her arrival in her new country.

The journey is one of joy and sorrow. Though the journey begins in Africa, the story opens in Europe with the process of seeking asylum. The following chapters include relationships, motherhood, family life, and the lessons to be learnt from daily life.

Despite all the ups and downs of her life both in Africa and Europe, the author is constantly aware of how blessed she has been, and is. She says that gratitude is ”the most important attitude in life”; gratitude to those who were there for her when life seemed overwhelming, and gratitude to God. As Jane puts it: ”I see myself as a living testimony of what God has done and is doing.”
